I’m designated science teacher. I zoom out
on the NASA website to the other galaxies.
Then back to our milky way. One says, I hate that
candy. Another says, I can’t eat snickers—nuts.
Which sends us down a path of likes, dislikes,
what we fear. Of course, the moon doesn’t change.
It’s our perception, depending on the sun,
the earth’s tilt. In fact, we are always looking
at the same facet, the same unnerving eye.
They favor the waxing gibbous. They laugh,
saying gibbous again and again. When the moon
wanes into a smart crescent, soon to vanish
is my preference. I zoom out again.
You see class. I point to the edge of blackness.
This is an event horizon.
