Even though you were taught to avoid passive voice, it is encouraged here. Partisanship is avoided by passive voice. Culpability is not to be implied, for funding has been granted from those who may be angered at the suggestion. The scientific method is often elucidated in this manner, as results are obtained, never produced by humans who may be playing god (lower case here) though that is not to be hinted at either. All pronouns (even the royal “we”) are to be removed. Judge, juror, and executioner are not to be assigned by implication. It is okay to be saddened by a violent killing, but to feel more for a fallen comrade and be stirred into naming and action is dangerous. Death is to be accepted, no matter how unjust.
